The traditional New Year's concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Loutraki is this year entitled "Dumbas Concert" and is dedicated to Nikolaos Dumbas, the Greek patron of the arts and great benefactor of Greece and Austria.
Nikolaos Doumbas was a personal friend, collaborator and supporter of the composers Johan Strauss, Johannes Brahms and Richard Wagner, the painters Gustav Klimt and Hans Makart as well as many other great personalities of the time. Nikolaos Doumbas is responsible for the rescue of approximately 200 musical manuscripts by Franz Schubert, which he then donated to the Austrian state and marked the official opening of the National Library of Austria. As a sponsor and as a member of the government he contributed to the reformation of Vienna, with his participation in the creation of the Musikverein, the Austrian Parliament, the City Hall and other emblematic buildings as well as the installation of monuments and statues in honor of Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart, Brahms etc. .a. He was distinguished for his benefactions, especially in the field of arts, in Greece and Austria.
The festive program of the concert includes famous compositions of the Strauss dynasty, works which at that time were dedicated to Dumba by Johan Strauss (Blue Danube, Neu Wien, Hellenen Polka) and Anton Kraal (Dumba March), Hungarian dances No1, No4 and No5 by Johannes Brahms and March Militaire by Franz Schubert.
At the concert, last year's winner of the "Nikolaos Doumbas" Competition, Konstantinos Alexandropoulos, will appear as a soloist, performing on the xylophone the work Rondo Alla Turca composed by W.A. Mozart and orchestrated especially for the concert by the chief musician of the Old Philharmonic, Spyros Prosoparis.
