Nemea, a 20 minute drive from Loutraki, has a centuries- long tradition in viticulture and winemaking especially with the red variety called “Agiorgitiko”, one of the most popular wine varieties in Greece. If you wish to follow the Wine Routes, the “Domaine Papaioannou” and “Semeli” wineries are open to visitors by prior arrangement.
The archaeological site of Ancient Nemea is the second most important reason to visit the area. The main sites are the Sanctuary of Zeus (4th century BC), which includes the ruins of the majestic temple with columns in Doric, Ionic and Corinthian order, and the stadium (320 BC), where the Nemean Games – one of the four major sporting events of ancient times – were held to honor Zeus.
